How Your Clothing Choice Affects Your Success

Whether you like it or not, your clothing communicates; it can affect your confidence, self esteem and it can have a serious effect on your ability to achieve success.

"Let's be clear: In the big picture of ultimate reality, what you wear neither defines who you are as a person nor determines your value as a human being," says Darlene Price, president of Well Said, Inc.(leading provider of executive presentation coaching and communication skills training). However, in our realm of mere mortals, people judge us by the way we look(how we dress is a big part).

Imagine yourself at a seminar with the topic(how to make #500,000 in 10 days 😀), then a lady you've never heard of, wearing a t-shirt on a short with slippers comes up to say she will be the one handling the seminar, what first comes to your mind(probably that she should make the money before she preaches it to you). On the other hand, imagine the woman wearing a well fitted suit, you see the difference?

Research shows that your appearance strongly influences other people's perception of your financial success, authority, trustworthiness, intelligence, and suitability for hire or promotion.

You should access "who you're", "where you're", "where you're going", "who you want to be" before you dress, choose a style or shop(will be writing an article on this soon, be on the lookout).

Let me paint another scenario:
A man(Seyitan) goes along with his friend(Harvey) to his in-laws' place for the first time to introduce himself as the fiance, Seyitan(fiance) is putting on a rumpled shirt on a Jean with sandals and Harvey(friend) is putting on well-starched, well-ironed, creases as sharp as mai-suya's knife with a loafer. Seyitan will probably be assumed to be the driver and Harvey the fiance, hope you get how the dressing just spoilt the impression the father of the lady has about him and that his self-confidence before that father as from that moment just dropped to an all-time low.
Now, I know you may be thinking, “How does dressing affect your attitude and confidence?”
Well, your self-perception has a tremendous impact on how others perceive you. Perception is an ideal reality; the more self-confidence you have, the more likely it is that you will do your best.

Think of a time when you didn't feel well, you probably put on whatever and dressed the way you felt – not that well. Now, take yourself back to a day when you had an important exam or interview. How did you dress and how did it affect your mentality?
Face it: When you don't look good, it changes how you carry yourself and also the way you interact with others.
Remind yourself every single day that dressing your best isn't just a device of perception, but also a tool that affects your confidence. Plus, what do you have to lose?

Dress yourself with confidence so you look good, feel better, and do your best.

So the next time you reach for those t-shirts, jeans, shirt or Suit, yoga pants or that fiery red dress, ask yourself how the clothing fits your outing, how will that clothing item make you feel and what is it saying to the world around you today?

Whatever message you’re trying to send, never forget the clothes you put that message in will determine the way it’s received. So, dress it carefully.

I hope you did enjoy reading(highly important to me), share with me your feedbacks in the comment section below.

10 Style Mistakes People Make That You Should Avoid/Stop This 2017.

If there’s one thing we are all guilty of, it’s making fun of someone who’s wrongly dressed but thinks he or she looks really good*I got you there😉😉. There are times when we are also guilty of making  mistakes.

As we all know that man judges by what he sees, therefore dressing right is 'highly important' to shape people's perception of who you're or who you're becoming.
I'll be sharing 10 mistakes that people(male/female) make which eventually makes other people think less of them.

1. BELTS AND SHOES THAT DON'T MATCH

This is mostly common among men, don't wear brown belts with black shoes and vice versa. It reduces the value your dressing ought to have. Picture it in your and you'll see how distracting it is. These details that people sometimes take for granted goes a long way in shaping people's opinion about you in a student, professional or social setting.
Solution: Belts and shoes must be the same color, and if you can, match the material too.

2. SHOWING TOO MUCH SKIN

This is common among the females, showing too much of anything doesn't make you look sexy. Sometimes, less is more. Showing too much is not a guarantee that you will get all the attention, you might even be sending wrong signals to whom might be interested. Never show too much cleavage or too much skin. Always leave something to the imagination. By showing less skin, people will begin to hold you in a higher esteem than they've done before.

3. WEARING SOCKS ON FLIP-FLOPS(SLIPPERS) OR ON TRADITIONAL ATTIRES

I know you all will probably have my head in the oven after reading this but the truth has to be told and accepted for us to become the best versions of who we ought to be.
Slippers are meant to be worn with bare feet, if your feet are not parts of your body that you are comfortable showing, then avoid open toe slippers. It's not right to put on socks(meant for English wears by the way) on your traditional attire(our own ibile cloth), it takes attention off the beauty of your trad.
Let's maintain the beauty of our trad.

4. BAD MAKEUP OR EXCESSIVE MAKEUP

Bad makeup or excessive makeup is never a good look, especially when the foundation on your face and neck are different colours, it makes you look tacky and this reduces your value especially when you're still single😉(we don't want reduction in your bride price, do we?). Lip liner in a much darker shade than your lipstick is also a no-no. Learn to draw your brows properly, save yourself from embarrassments by learning to do it right.
Solution: Identify people good with makeup and make friends, even if it's just for the sake of who you want to be, just do it.
You can also go on YouTube and download makeup videos or you might as well get a personal makeup artist(I know some fantastic ones that don't charge much, buzz me*winks*).

5. WEARING DIRTY UNDERWEAR BECAUSE YOU THINK NO ONE SEES IT

Just because your pants (on the whole) remain hidden under your clothes, does not give you free reign to don the saggy boxer shorts you got in your closet back in 1870(dodges slap). Treat your underwear as you would the rest of your wardrobe, you wouldn't wear a worn out, discoloured, slightly smelly shirt into the office now, would you? Every piece of clothing you wear is as important as the other. Your underwear should be kept clean, if possible don't wear one for more than once before washing. Hygiene is very important on your march to greatness(trust me).

6. VISIBLE PANTY LINES

Wearing garments(clothes) with pant lines or bra straps showing is another fashion error women make. Avoid wearing under garments that are revealed in your outer garments. Go for nude underwear when you want to wear sheer garments(light textured) and consider undergarments to smooth out any lumps or bumps. You see a woman gorgeously dressed  and then she walks away and you notice her panty lines or you see a woman wearing an off-shoulder top with her bra straps showing, this could be embarrassing. There are different types of bra and pants, always shop for the right types of undergarment considering the kind of clothes you have in your wardrobe(will talk about how to shop right in another article) so as to avoid the embarrassing revelation(word makes me feel pastoral🙌🙌) that pant lines and bra straps cause.

7. IMPROPER TIE LENGTH

As the saying goes "whatever is worth doing is worth doing well", a tie when used is meant to be properly used.
A man's tie should always touch his belt buckle, this simple touch overlooked by many can make a man look incompetent.

8. UNDERSIZED/OVERSIZED DRESSING

You can look really bad when you don’t wear clothes that fit right. Your outfit needs to have shape. Don’t try to hide in baggy clothes neither should you try to squeeze into an outfit that’s too small for you. Know your size and stick with it. How it fits is one of the most important aspects of clothing. Irrespective of your size, knowing your size and shopping for the right clothing is one giant step to dressing right. You should evaluate your current clothing and start shopping and dressing in the line of who you are/want to be.

9. BUTTONS ON SUITS

It’s considered a fashion blunder to button up your suit jacket all the way. If it’s a suit with 3 buttons, button 2 and fly one. And if it’s a 2 button suit, button up one and fly the other. This makes the whole ensemble look classy, little details in dressing make a lot of difference and you should endeavor to pay attention to these little details.

10. WEARING TOO MANY COLORS

The use of colours while dressing talks a lot about your fashion sense. If you are wearing too many colours at a time, then you are making a mistake. Too many matching shades or too much contrast colours could make you look funny. Colours and fashion go hand in hand. Understand shades and hues to avoid being a fashion victim. Work with the colour wheel and you will be fine.
