Whether you like it or not, your clothing communicates; it can affect your confidence, self esteem and it can have a serious effect on your ability to achieve success.
"Let's be clear: In the big picture of ultimate reality, what you wear neither defines who you are as a person nor determines your value as a human being," says Darlene Price, president of Well Said, Inc.(leading provider of executive presentation coaching and communication skills training). However, in our realm of mere mortals, people judge us by the way we look(how we dress is a big part).
Imagine yourself at a seminar with the topic(how to make #500,000 in 10 days 😀), then a lady you've never heard of, wearing a t-shirt on a short with slippers comes up to say she will be the one handling the seminar, what first comes to your mind(probably that she should make the money before she preaches it to you). On the other hand, imagine the woman wearing a well fitted suit, you see the difference?
Research shows that your appearance strongly influences other people's perception of your financial success, authority, trustworthiness, intelligence, and suitability for hire or promotion.
You should access "who you're", "where you're", "where you're going", "who you want to be" before you dress, choose a style or shop(will be writing an article on this soon, be on the lookout).
Let me paint another scenario:
A man(Seyitan) goes along with his friend(Harvey) to his in-laws' place for the first time to introduce himself as the fiance, Seyitan(fiance) is putting on a rumpled shirt on a Jean with sandals and Harvey(friend) is putting on well-starched, well-ironed, creases as sharp as mai-suya's knife with a loafer. Seyitan will probably be assumed to be the driver and Harvey the fiance, hope you get how the dressing just spoilt the impression the father of the lady has about him and that his self-confidence before that father as from that moment just dropped to an all-time low.
Now, I know you may be thinking, “How does dressing affect your attitude and confidence?”
Well, your self-perception has a tremendous impact on how others perceive you. Perception is an ideal reality; the more self-confidence you have, the more likely it is that you will do your best.
Think of a time when you didn't feel well, you probably put on whatever and dressed the way you felt – not that well. Now, take yourself back to a day when you had an important exam or interview. How did you dress and how did it affect your mentality?
Face it: When you don't look good, it changes how you carry yourself and also the way you interact with others.
Remind yourself every single day that dressing your best isn't just a device of perception, but also a tool that affects your confidence. Plus, what do you have to lose?
Dress yourself with confidence so you look good, feel better, and do your best.
So the next time you reach for those t-shirts, jeans, shirt or Suit, yoga pants or that fiery red dress, ask yourself how the clothing fits your outing, how will that clothing item make you feel and what is it saying to the world around you today?
Whatever message you’re trying to send, never forget the clothes you put that message in will determine the way it’s received. So, dress it carefully.
